This article deals with the syntax of a specific category of interrogatives in Cameroon spoken French, whose common features are their binary structure on the one hand, and the presence of a que element at the internal junction of the structure. After bringing out limits revealed by former descriptive models on similar linguistics facts, the paper seeks to elicit these facts in the light of the Aix’s macro-syntactic model. On the basis of syntactic and pragmatic criteria, three different types of such interrogatives are distinguished; for each type there clearly seems not to exist any grammatical dependency between the syntactic units that build up a binary structure, as the presence of que would imply. Therefore it is suggested that the relation between two or more syntactic units in such structures be described according to their discursive hierarchy

The papers in this volume were presented at the 47th Annual Conference on African Linguistics at UC Berkeley in 2016. The papers offer new descriptions of African languages and propose novel theoretical analyses of them. The contributions span topics in phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics and reflect the typological and genetic diversity of languages in Africa. Four papers in the volume examine Areal Features and Linguistic Reconstruction in Africa, and were presented at a special workshop on this topic held alongside the general session of ACAL
